How to Publish Your Changes
Learn the distinction between saving and publishing your work, and how to safely push changes live with the Publish workflow.
The platform is designed to give you a safe and flexible workspace. A key part of this is the distinction between saving and publishing your work. All of the changes you make in the editor are saved automatically, but they are not made live on your website until you are ready and explicitly click the Publish button.
This workflow is incredibly powerful because it allows you to work on updates for a embeddable that is already live on your site without disrupting your users. You can take your time to edit, test, and perfect your changes, and then push them live with a single click.
Understanding the Publish Workflow
The Yellow Dot Indicator
Whenever you make a change in the editor that has not yet been made live, a yellow dot will appear on the Publish button in the top-right corner. This dot is your visual cue that your current saved version in the editor is different from the public, live version. If there is no dot, it means your editor and live versions are in sync.
Saved vs. Published
- Saved: This is your working "draft." Every change you make is saved automatically, so you can always close the window and pick up where you left off. This version is only visible to you in the editor.
- Published: This is the official "live" version that your users see on your website. The act of publishing takes your current saved version and makes it the new live version.
How to Publish Your Changes: A Step-by-Step Guide
-
Make Your Changes in the Editor Work on your embeddable as you normally would. As you make edits, you will see the yellow dot appear on the Publish button, indicating you have unpublished work.
-
Open the Publish Menu When you are completely satisfied with your changes and ready to make them public, click the Publish button.
-
Confirm and Publish A dropdown menu will appear. Click the Publish Make them live button to push all your saved changes to the live embeddable.
-
Verify the Update After a moment, the publishing process will complete, and the yellow dot on the Publish button will disappear. This confirms that your changes are now live and visible to your users.
